Keeping safe in parks during hot weather

With temperatures rising as we head towards summer, we need to remain mindful of how to keep safe while in our parks.

As we enjoy the hot weather ahead of the bank holiday weekend, if you're planning to take the opportunity to head to Hounslow's parks, please be aware of the risk of wildfires. It only takes a small spark to ignite grass, shrubs or litter and with the dry weather conditions that we have been experiencing, any fire can quickly get out of control.

Here’s a reminder of some top tips on how to keep everyone safe:

  • Do not light barbecues or fires in the parks and open spaces.
  • Dispose of cigarette ends and other smoking material in a responsible manner.
  • Take your litter home with you - glass items can magnify the sun’s rays and ignite dry grass.
  • If you see anything of concern, report it to the parks team or call 999 in an emergency.
  • If you spot a fire, quickly leave the area, tell others to do so and call 999.

Please also review London Fire’s comprehensive guidance on grass fire prevention for more information.

Anyone convicted of deliberately starting fires could face fines, community orders and in the most serious cases, prison sentences.

Residents can report any non-urgent concerns to Hounslow Council on 020 8583 5555 or email: parks@hounslow.gov.uk

Residents can review Hounslow's Park rules and byelaws.
