Children at HAF event

Hounslow Council has opened bookings for the Summer Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme this week.

The scheme is available for children eligible for free school meals. During the Easter HAF programme, over 97% of children rated the Easter HAF camp as good or excellent, with 95% saying they felt more active because of programme.

Activities this summer include football, computer coding, assault courses, arts and crafts, VR experience, swimming, circus skills and more.

Michael*, whose child attended the HAF easter camps, said “My son has Autism Spectrum Disorder and has limited opportunities to socialise in environments such as these holiday camps. The scheme really improved his social skills and he had the opportunity to meet other neuro typical peers.  Physical activity is also limited in holidays due to environmental factors and overcrowding. He came out happy as Larry despite my anxieties”

Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Education, Children, Skills and Employment at Hounslow Council, said: “The HAF programme provides children with opportunities to stay active, form new friendships, and explore exciting new activities in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage all eligible families to book early and take full advantage of everything on offer.”

“Parents whose children have previously taken part have seen their children become more active, improved  mental health and adopt healthier eating habits - while enjoying a fun, social experience.”

Hounslow Council is hosting an online drop-in session on Tuesday, 15 July between 11am and 1pm, for parents/carers who have any questions about the scheme. The team will be ready to answer any questions, offer support in making a booking and provide more information about what is on offer in Hounslow. The call can be joined from this link.
