Building works for a new Meadowbank Community Hub and Library in Cranford will begin later this month.

The new hub will deliver library services and adult education, alongside tailored support, including help with money management, health, employment, and more.

Hounslow’s Community Hubs deliver support to residents in partnership with local voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. All eleven Hounslow libraries will become Community Hubs too, this year. Bringing services close to residents' homes, with opening hours that meet the needs of the community.

As part of the new Community Hub, Cranford Library will move to Meadowbank in the autumn. Local people can expect to find a brand-new children’s library, complete with a woodland theme, to inspire young minds. The newly fitted out adult library features flexible furniture to support events and activities outside library opening hours.

Adult learners are already signing up to the exciting programme of classes offered at Meadowbank, for the new autumn term. Learn Hounslow is already established at the site and delivers to more than 2,000 learners each year. Courses ranging from beginner digital skills to cooking classes, are offered at Meadowbank.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, the Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

We’re excited to be delivering this remarkable new library and community hub to people in Cranford. Meadowbank will provide everything from activities, entertainment and learning to some important services that will offer people a clear pathway to better health, money management, job prospects and more.

Our growing Community Hub network responds to what people tell us they need. The hubs offer residents a single point of contact at the Council, who can help stop problems from spiralling out of control, offering people a positive route forward instead.

Our approach is already improving residents’ lives. Between February and April this year, we saw more than 1,500 residents access support at Community Hubs in Hounslow, Cranford, Brentford, and Feltham. 81 percent of residents said their experience was good or excellent, and 90 percent said they got what they came for.

The Meadowbank Community Hub and Library is an important new addition to the libraries and hubs already delivering across Hounslow. There is a lot of complex work to complete before we open our new hub, this autumn.

Construction work at the Meadowbank site will support improved accessibility including: an additional centre entrance, bike and pram storage, air conditioning, disabled parking spaces and a refit.
