How we are improving the buildings and facilities – 13 September 2021

At the moment, the Changing Rooms are used by Spartans FC and include externally accessed public toilets, which are currently not open for use due to drainage issues. The changing facilities and toilets require complete overhaul and modernisation so that the toilets can be re-opened and better facilities can be enjoyed by Spartans FC and potentially other sports clubs. The Cafe is a popular and very important part of the park, offering a key community facility. However the building was never designed as a Café and is dark, uninviting and needs modernising. The building will also be extended to provide a new learning space for the Park. The Service Yard buildings are dilapidated, derelict, unsafe and unusable in their current condition. The Bothy building in the Walled Garden is structurally sound but in need of modernisation.

Opportunity for improvement and Works

  • The Changing Rooms will have improved changing facilities. The Café Pavilion will be modernised to provide improved toilets, kitchen, office space and cafe seating with external covered spill-out space. It will also be extended to provide an education/community space.
  • The Service Yard potting sheds will be made weather-tight and secure and provide a space for horticulture and volunteering, including dedicated space for project officers and the Friends of Boston Manor Park.

Future

  • All the buildings will be brought back into use and modernised to ensure they meet the needs of the community and operate sustainably and efficiently.
