Event Day, Doctor and Season Ticket Virtual Permits: Frequently Asked Questions

Important update: Virtual Permits from Friday 28 Feburuary 2025 

From the 28 February 2025, all new Event Day, Doctor and Season Ticket permits will be issued as virtual. Existing paper permits are still valid until they expire. We are looking at a 2 year transition period and this phased approach will help minimise disruption and allow permit holders time to adjust to the new system. 

What are the benefits of Virtual Permits 

  • No physical permit required – instant activation. 
  • Environmentally friendly – reduces paper waste. 
  • Improved enforcement with digital checks. 

What is the transition period? Existing paper permits remain valid until expiry; however we are looking at a 2 year transition period and this phased approach will help minimise disruption and allow residents time to adjust to the new system. 

Over time, most of our permits will be virtual.

1. When do the changes take effect?
From Friday 28 February 2025. 

2. How does enforcement work?
Officers check registrations digitally using handheld devices – there is no need to display a permit. 

3. Will visitor permits also be virtual?
No, not yet. The current book system remains. 

4. What if I change my vehicle?
Please email parking.permits@hounslow.gov.uk

5. Will virtual permits cost more?
No.

6. How will I know my permit is active?
You’ll receive email confirmation.

7. What if I park without a valid permit?
You may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). Ensure your permit is active before parking. 

8. Will this affect Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs)?
No, parking zones and restrictions remain unchanged. 

9. What happens to my existing paper permit?
It remains valid until expiry. Renewals will be issued as virtual permits.
