Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel inspires pupils to make active journeys to school, to improve air quality in their neighbourhood and discover how these changes benefit their world.

On Your Feet Britain Day is an awareness day to encourage desk-based workers across Britain to sit less and move more by participating in fun activities.

National Walking Month 

May 

 

National Walking Month is a great way to leave your car at home, get outside and get fit by walking to and from school. If school or work is too far, try walking part of the way instead. Take the Stairs - Instead of taking the lift or elevator, take the stairs.

Bike Month Cycle Challenge

This year Bike Week is all about workplace cycling, and we want to encourage as many workplaces as possible to support their staff to ride during the week, it can be anything from organising an event ride to simply encouraging staff to choose the bike instead of the car during the week.

Walk to School Week 

15 – 20 May 2023

 

Walk to School Week is a fun, inclusive, free, and simple activity, which improves the physical and mental wellbeing of children and celebrates walking for all. “Pupils enjoy the health and happiness that comes from walking, while schools and local communities enjoy reduced congestion and pollution.

 

 

 

Outdoor Classroom Day

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to make time outdoors part of every child’s day. On two days of action each year, teachers take children outdoors to play and learn. All year round, the Outdoor Classroom Day community campaigns for more time outdoors every day.

 

Clean Air Day 

15 June 2023 

 

National Clean Air Day is the UK's largest day of action to tackle air pollution. We can all do our bit to improve air quality. By walking or cycling to work and school we can improve our health through exercise and subsequently help to limit air pollution – where you can, walk those short distance trips and leave your car at home.

World Environment Day

Bike Week

Bike Week is an annual celebration of cycling, in partnership with Cycling UK, with the aim of encouraging more people to cycle more often. Cycling is a brilliant way to help our bodies and minds stay healthy, helping us to get outside and active.

Brake’s Kid Walk

Brake’s Kids Walk is a great way to inspire and engage children about the dangers they face and raise awareness among parents and the wider community about the need to protect children on roads.

 

 

The Great Big Green Walk

Catch the Bus Week is a nationwide campaign aimed at driving awareness of the benefits of taking the bus. It is led be Greener Journeys, a campaign group dedicated to encouraging people to make more sustainable travel choices. 

 

Cycle to Work Day

15 August 2023 

 

Cycle to Work Day is the UK’s biggest cycling commuting event. This year on August 4th we’ll be encouraging workers all around the country to get on their bikes and get into work the best way possible – on two wheels! It’s an event for everyone, from people who haven’t hopped on a bike since their school days to committed cycle commuters.
