Stay warm and well

There are several ways we are helping Hounslow residents to look after their health this winter. From warm spaces to winter vaccinations, as well as classes and activities to improve balance, check out the best ways to enjoy the colder months while staying well.

Enjoy a warm welcome

The cold weather can bring a number of health challenges, including increased risk of a heart attack or stroke due to higher blood pressure. It’s important that everyone has access to a space where they can stay warm, especially if they have pre-existing health conditions such as respiratory problems.

For some people, heating their home for the whole winter can be difficult due to high energy prices. That’s why the Council is opening warm spaces across Hounslow this winter. These include every library and community hub, plus other welcoming places across the borough. They’re a great place to meet people, get a free cup of tea or coffee, and get out of the cold.

Protect yourself and others

It’s not too late for any eligible Hounslow resident to get a free flu and covid vaccination. People can either book directly on the NHS website, contact their GP, or head to a participating local pharmacy to get theirs.

It’s a great way to make sure seasonal plans don’t get cancelled, as well as keeping loved ones safe from serious illness.

Stay on your feet

Winter can mean slippery pavements and creaking bones, which increases the risk of falls. Anyone who wants to reduce this risk can check out the great range of Stay Steady & Active events and activities across Hounslow.

There is also a self-assessment tool so people can better understand their own risks and take the necessary steps.

Get the best care for your little ones

If your child or grandchild feelings poorly this winter and you’re not sure if you should send them to school or nursery, please check the Healthier Together website to review their symptoms.

It shows when to treat at home, when to call your GP, or if it’s more serious, when to visit hospital.

Winter prevention NHS promotion

If your child’s symptoms signpost you to call your GP Practice, there are now an additional 750 same-day GP appointments for children aged 0–4 years, as part of a new winter initiative to give families quicker, safer care, closer to home, without the need to wait in A&E.
