Voting by post

The deadline to apply to vote by post is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026. 

The easiest way to apply for a postal vote is online. You will need to provide:

  • a photograph of your signature (clear and light on plain, white paper)

  • your National Insurance number

You can cancel or make changes to an existing postal vote up to 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026. View more information on cancelling your postal vote.

Postal votes will be sent as soon as possible after the close of candidate nominations – apply early to avoid delays.

If you have spoilt, lost or not received your postal ballot pack, you can apply for a replacement until 5pm on Thursday 7 May 2026.

Voting by proxy

The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.

The easiest way to apply for a proxy vote is online. You will need to provide:

  • a photograph of your signature (clear and light on plain, white paper)

  • your National Insurance number

Apply for a proxy vote

If you already have a postal vote but prefer to vote by proxy, cancel your postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026.

If your proxy cannot attend your polling station, they can apply for a postal proxy vote. Both applications must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2026.
