We’ve completed works on the latest section of Cycleway 9 (C9) between Watermans Park and Alexandra Road (Morrisons Supermarket), as part of our commitment to create a safe cycle network across Hounslow.
Delivered in partnership with Transport for London, this new section of C9 now means that cyclist can safely travel all the way from Alexandra Road up to Kew Bridge, connecting with the previous section completed in 2023.
New safe cycle lanes have been built along Brentford High Street, helping to safely connect more people with key destinations, residential areas, and inner London in a safe and sustainable way.
All works have been completed on this latest section of Cycleway 9 which is now open for use.
We thank you for your patience while we completed these important works.
What we’ve delivered
The completed works between Watermans Park and Alexandra Road (Morrisons Supermarket) include:
- One-way, protected cycle lanes on both sides of the High Street
- Two new pedestrian crossings at Alexandra Road and Pottery Road
- Higher quality pavement surfaces for pedestrians
- Upgrades to four existing pedestrian crossings at Ferry Lane, Ealing Road, North Road and Holland Gardens
- Redesign of side roads and junctions to make them safer for people walking.
The length of the new section is 0.9km, taking the total for Cycleway 9 in Hounslow to 2.9km.
Celebrate this new section Cycleway 9 with us
We’re committed to supporting more sustainable modes of transport and encouraging active travel.
So, to celebrate the opening of this new section of Cycleway 9, we will be hosting a come and try facilitated bike ride on Friday 20 September 2024.
We will be running facilitated rides along the newest section of C9 from 3pm – 5pm on Friday afternoon. You can bring your own bike, or we will have a few for you to come and try. Our expert rides leaders will also be on hand to give a full safety briefing before you set off.
There will also be activities in Watermans Park, including games, safety briefing sessions and tips to help you to feel more comfortable when cycling through Hounslow.
This will also kick off a weekend of celebrations across Hounslow for Car Free Day.
So please come down and join in on all the fun.
For those who can’t join us, we also offer a range of other cycling initiatives on our website.
Changes to TFL bus services
To allow us to deliver this exciting project, there had been some changes to bus services traveling along Brentford High Street.
Buses traveling eastbound towards Chiswick will no longer be stopping at:
- Brentford County Court (eastbound) – permanently closed, replaced by new stop opposite the old Fire Station at Ferry Lane
- Musical Museum (eastbound) – permanently closed, replaced by new stop at Holland Garden
