Becoming a Democracy Ambassador

Change starts with you.
The Democracy Ambassadors Programme helps young people understand how decisions are made and how they can get involved in their community. With the Government planning to lower the voting age to 16, this is a great time to learn more about democracy and why it matters.
The programme runs from May to September, and you’ll gain practical knowledge, meet inspiring people, and take part in activities that make democracy come alive.
If you are aged 16 to 18 and live or study in the London Borough of Hounslow, you can apply. We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to making sure young people from all backgrounds can take part.
Build skills and make a difference
Taking part in the programme will help you build skills that matter and make a real impact.
You will:
- Gain practical experience in leadership, report writing, project planning - skills that employers and universities are always on the lookout for.
- Meet people and make connections which can lead to opportunities for further development.
- Make a difference by promoting democratic participation in your school and community.
To celebrate your achievements, the Leader of the Council will present you with a certificate at an awards ceremony at Hounslow House. Once completed, you will be recognised as an official Democracy Ambassador.
