We are responsible for maintaining grass verges on pavements adjoining roads in the borough.
You can read more about how we do this on the Hounslow Highways website.
See: Hounslow Highways website - Grassed verges, weeds, hedges and shrubs
Report a problem
There may be an issue with a grass verge. For example:
- a neighbour driving across a grass verge into their property to park their car
- builders' materials stored on a grass verge
Driving across a grass verge
It is illegal to drive over a grass verges or footpath unless a dropped kerb installed by Hounslow Council is in place.
If this is happening, we need to know:
- the location
- when it happened or if is happening regularly
- the vehicle details
An officer will investigate the matter and, if necessary, arrange for the person to be advised that they:
- must stop until a dropped kerb is installed
- could be liable for the cost of repairing damaged areas

Building materials
Building materials are permitted on the footpath/road if we have given permission.
You can contact us if:
- you are unsure whether permission has been applied for and granted
- the materials are causing an obstruction
We will investigate and, if necessary, issue a warning to either apply for permission or remove the materials. The people responsible will risk prosecution if they fail to take action.

Weed growth
There may be weeds growing on footpaths and in the carriageway channels.
We operate a weed spraying programme at certain times throughout the year. Once weeds have been sprayed and allowed to die off, we return to the site so that they can be removed if necessary. See also: Hounslow Highways website - Treatment of weeds
You can report excessive growth or weeds that haven't been removed and we will take action as necessary.
