Apply for a dropped kerb

As a resident, you can apply for a dropped kerb to access your driveway or garage.

This is also known as a crossover.

A business can also apply for a crossover, but this always requires planning permission.

To apply

You complete an application on the Hounslow Highways website and pay an initial fee for the application and inspection. This fee is non-refundable.

Once you have paid the fee, Hounslow Highways reviews your application and contacts you to arrange an inspection. The inspection is to give consideration to road safety and assess the installation process.

If the application is accepted, you will receive a quote for the dropped kerb to be installed.

Requirements

Although we make an inspection, you can refer to documents in our information pack to assess whether or not the proposed location is suitable for a dropped kerb.

See: Dropped kerb requirements information pack

Planning permission

Some dropped kerbs require planning permission. For example, if it is:

  • outside a flat
  • in a conservation area

If planning permission is required, you would apply for it after applying for the dropped kerb. However, we advise you to consider whether planning permission will be required before you make the application because it makes the process longer and costs a further fee.

Pricing

The installation price we quote will be based on:

  • measurements and materials involved
  • the cost of moving anything that is blocking the crossover, such as a lamppost or water pipe
