Make an application
To apply for a school clothing grant, you should first read about when you can get one and whether you're eligible.
When you apply
We will ask for:
- your National Insurance number or National Asylum Support Service number
- your child or children's name(s) and date(s) of birth
- details of your child or children's school(s)
- proof of your eligibility for a grant
Documents we accept
We accept the following documents as proof of your eligibility:

Income Support

Copy of the front cover and page of book that says income support or a copy of a letter sent within the last three months from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) stating that you are receiving income support.

Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

Copy of a DWP letter within the last three months and states ‘Job Seekers Allowance (income based)’ on any page of the letter. We do not accept an interview card as proof of Jobseekers' Allowance.

Child Tax Credit

Copy of Tax Award Notice (TC602) confirming that your annual income does not exceed £16,190, and you do not receiving working tax credits, as assessed by the Inland Revenue from the current financial year.

Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Copy of a DWP letter within the last three months ans states ‘Employment and Support Allowance (income based)’ on any page of the letter. If it doesn't state this anywhere on the letter, you should requrest one from DWP.

Universal Credit

All pages of the Universal Credit detailed statement for the last three months, clearly showing: breakdown of benefits and any earned/unearned income deductions confirmation of net earned monthly income of £616 or below

Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

Copy of your Pension Credit M100 Award notice.

National Asylum Support Service (NASS)

Letter from the Home Office confirming support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

No recource to public funds (NCPR)

Document showing you belong to any of the following categories:
- children of Zambrano or Chen carers
- right to remain in the UK on private or family life grounds under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights
- families receiving support under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 who are also subject to a NCPR restriction
- certain failed asylum seekers supported under Section 4 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- families holding a BN(O) passport
- families or individuals on spousal, work or student visas
- families or individuals with no immigration status
The annual household income thresholds for families who can work are:
- £31,200 for families with one child
- £34,800 for families with two or more children
You can provide your employment contract or P60 as evidence of your income.
Also, families must have no more than £16,000 in capital and savings to be eligible.
You must complete the application in a single visit. There is no way to save progress and return to your application.
