Parking on the street

Blue Badge Parking

Blue badges are for the sole benefit of the holder, which means that one may only be displayed if the holder is either in the vehicle or being picked up or dropped off.

To be correctly displayed all the details on the front of the badge must be clearly legible through the front windscreen, with the wheelchair symbol facing outwards.

Your badge entitles you to park in the following locations within the borough

  • Cashless parking bays (without time limits).
  • Shared use cashless/permit holder bays (without time limit).
  • Resident permit holder bays (without time limit).
  • Disabled bays (check bay sign for any time limits).
  • On single or double yellow lines for up to three hours, so long as no load ban is in place (yellow kerb stripes), no obstruction is caused, and a clock is displayed set to the nearest quarter of an hour of arrival. Once you leave you must not return with one hour.
  • All council run car parks (without time limit).
  • On private land separate rules apply – always check the signs.

Your badge does not entitle you to park:

  • On the pavement (unless bays are marked).
  • On restricted bus stops/stands.
  • In bays reserved for specific users eg business or doctors bays.
  • In loading bays.

If you are a Blue Badge holder and you own a vehicle but do not have off-street parking, you may be eligible for a disabled bay.
