Garden waste collection service 2021/2022
Sign up to the garden waste collection service – Half year subscription now available!
Hounslow Council’s garden waste collection service provides residents with fortnightly collections from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, with a break of two weeks over the Christmas period. The service is a convenient, low-cost way for residents with gardens to dispose of cuttings throughout the year.
We are now offering residents the opportunity to sign up for access to our half year service. The half year service runs from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022. The new full year service will then operate again from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.
The cost is £30.00 for the half year service, or £15.00 for residents in receipt of Council Tax Reduction. This is the last chance this year for residents to sign up for the Garden Waste collection service – new subscriptions will be unavailable from 30 November. We advise residents to sign up as soon as possible to ensure they receive collections before Christmas.
New subscribers will be provided with a 240-litre brown wheeled bin or two heavy duty 90 litre sacks (*sacks currently out of stock), depending on their available storage space. These are then collected on a fortnightly basis from their property by Recycle 360, a company wholly owned by Hounslow Council. Every collection is then recycled and creates compost – no waste collected by Hounslow Council goes to landfill.
When you subscribe, your collection day will be the same day of the week as your refuse collection, but on alternate weeks to your refuse collection. The half year service will operate from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
It will take approximately 10 days to deliver your garden waste bin or sacks. Following delivery of your new Garden Waste bin(s) or sacks, you must wait until your next scheduled collection for the Garden Waste to be collected.
If you are new to the service or simply renewing, then payment can be made easily using all major credit and debit cards, excluding American Express. Residents without access to a computer can subscribe by visiting their local library, where a member of staff will be happy to help.
If you are currently a Garden Waste subscriber and paid with direct debit last year then be careful not to subscribe again as you may be due to renew automatically, please look out for notifications about your subscription before renewing.

What happens to the collected Garden Waste?
Garden Waste in Hounslow is collected and taken to purpose built sites where it is turned into compost through a process called open Windrow Composting*. The six week process allows the green waste to breakdown naturally in the presence of oxygen, creating a high quality compost that is certified to the PAS100 quality standard.
*The Garden Waste is put in to long heaps called Windrows. It is turned frequently until it breaks down naturally to form a material that can be used to improve the soil.
