What you need to become a foster carer
To be considered as a foster carer you don’t need to have previous experience of working with children or have children of your own.
You can become a foster carer if you:
- are aged over 21
- have a spare room, if fostering children aged over two
- live or work within reasonable distance of Hounslow borough
- can take a child to and from school where necessary
- can take a child to and from contact with their family
- can take a child to health appointments
- can meet a child’s educational needs
- are in good health
- can speak, read and write English
- have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
- are a legal, full-time resident of the UK (although British citizenship is not required)
- are passionate about making a real difference to a child/young person’s life
Hounslow foster carers can be:
- from any cultural or religious background
- single, married or living with a partner
- heterosexual or LGBT+
- persons with disabilities
- living in rented, owned or council property
- a parent or someone who has experience of caring for children
