We are committed to ensuring the borough works for children, young people and the wider community.
For this reason, we engaged with over 2,000 young people from across Hounslow to shape and develop the Children and young people’s plan.
Children and young people told us:
- they want safe streets, with a focus on reducing crime and antisocial behaviour
- travel in Hounslow is not reliable, safe or enjoyable. Addressing issues relating to this, including traffic, would improve their wellbeing
- they would feel happier with cleaner environments, especially focusing on reducing litter and improving cleanliness in busy areas
- they enjoy spending time outside, but parks should be made safer
- more accessible mental health support is incredibly important to them
- education should focus on more subjects outside of the curriculum, helping their transition into adult life
- they like how diverse Hounslow is and feel a sense of community here
The plan is based on the fundamental belief that children and young people do not exist in isolation. It emphasises the importance of a supportive environment for children and young people’s wellbeing.
Ambitions
This plan sets out ambitions over five years that will help the community to thrive. To achieve these ambitions, we structured the plan around the six outcome areas from our corporate plan. These are:
- A Greener Hounslow is sustainable and promotes clean air, green jobs and green spaces to improve wellbeing.
- A Healthier Hounslow allows all children to get the healthiest start in life, and remain active and in good health.
- A Cleaner Hounslow aims to maintain a clean and litter-free Borough. Recycling is encouraged and children and young people can get involved through the Eco Schools programme.
- Hounslow is a Thriving Borough with strong communities to help children and young people achieve their full potential.
- A Safer Hounslow aims to create a safe borough with low crime rates so children and young people can feel safe to live, play, study and work.
- A Liveable Hounslow provides affordable housing and supportive neighbourhoods.
To ensure we uphold the voices of the young people who shaped the plan and that we achieve the set ambitions, we will regularly review this plan alongside children, young people and the wider Hounslow community.
