Early years support

SEND early years education (0 to 5 years)

Early years education settings for children under 5 with SEND include:

  • day nurseries
  • pre-schools
  • playgroups
  • registered childminders

Choosing childcare

Choosing the right kind of childcare setting to support your child's learning and development is a big step and it is important to choose the most appropriate childcare for your family.

The Hounslow Family Services Directory (FSD) is an online directory where you can find information about:

Mainstream settings

Most children with SEND will have their needs met in a mainstream setting. All early years providers must make sure children with SEND receive support and must follow the SEND Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years.

If you think your child has a learning difficulty or learning disability, you may wish to talk about this with the SENCO or headteacher when you visit the setting, childminder or school you want to apply to.

Places for children with complex needs

Children with more complex needs may be eligible for a specialist nursery place.

You can make a referral to the Early Years SEND Panel if you have concerns that your child under the age of five is showing signs of significant complex needs.

You can read the Early Years SEND Panel information document before making a referral.

To make a referral, you need to:

  1. Complete the Hounslow Early Years SEND Panel referral form
  2. Send it to us either:
