By becoming a governor, you will:

To be a governor you need to:

- not be disqualified under the relevant rules and procedures
What do governors do?
Governors attend at least two meetings per term and bring a diverse range of skills, perspectives, and experiences. They are required to visit school for monitoring visits, learning walks and to engage with the school community. Governors follow the 7 Principles of Public Life: Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership, guiding them to act in the public interest with transparency and without personal gain, ensuring trust and proper governance.
How are governors supported?
There is a wide range of training and resources available. Boards will have an induction process tailored to the governor type, school context and current needs and can often
arrange a ‘buddy’ for those new to education and/or governance. Hounslow Governor Services can signpost towards support and offers a comprehensive training package.
The board ensures:
- that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
- that the headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
- the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources
If you have a specific school in mind, you can contact the school office directly. Alternatively contact Governor Services for more information and to find out about current opportunities.
