School travel assistance

Make an application

To apply for school travel assistance, you first need to read our general guidance, check your eligibility and read the policy for your child or young person's age.

We will assess your eligibility based on:

  • the needs of the child or young person
  • the information provided on the application form
  • other information available to the school travel assistance team

The information you provide must be true and complete. You may be liable to prosecution if you provide false information.

You need to:

  • complete all the questions
  • attach any relevant evidence to support any statements made in this application
  • include all necessary information to assist us in making our decision

After you apply

We aim to advise you of the outcome of the assessment and, where eligible, have travel assistance in place within 28 working days of receiving your application.

If you apply for travel assistance for the start of the school year (between April and the end of September), it may take longer than 28 working days to get a decision. This is because this is the reapplication period for families who already receive school travel assistance. Re-applications for the new school year often take more time to process than in-year applications.
