Report a pothole

A pothole is a widely used term to describe damage to a road or carriageway.

Potholes are an inevitable part of urban life in West London because our roads are heavily used, but they could be hazardous as they may damage cars and pose a danger to cyclists and pedestrians.

Potholes can form at any time due to a combination of factors, including but not limited to:

  • increased traffic wear
  • poor drainage
  • heavy vehicles

Winter accelerates pothole formation because of the freeze-thaw cycle, where snow, ice and prolonged rainfall contribute to their formation. Water seeps into cracks in the road surface, freezes and expands, weakening the structure until the surface breaks apart.

If you see a pothole in the borough, please report it. Make sure you supply as much detail as possible in your report.

Report a pothole (Hounslow Highways FixMyStreet)

We will inspect the pothole to determine whether it meets the 'investigatory level' for reactive repair.

We will then either:

  • take action if it meets the investigatory level
  • add it to a list of defects to monitor during routine safety inspections if it does not meet the investigatory level
