Construction noise
The hours where noise is permitted in relation to construction and building works (and which are set out in the Control of Pollution Act 1974):
- Monday to Friday: 8am to 6pm
- Saturday: 8am to 1pm
- Sundays or Bank Holidays: No noisy work permitted
In some circumstances, dispensations can be granted, so these times can differ.
We monitor construction activities to minimise pollution caused by noise, dust and other nuisances. Construction sites are in the open and often near existing residential accommodation.
Complaints concerning noisy working after permitted hours will be investigated by the Council and may result in the service of a notice under the Control of Pollution Act 1974, which puts formal controls on the hours of operations on any site.
