The Council has recently completed three schemes based on community feedback to make it safer for residents to walk, cycle, and wheel in the borough.

The Community-Led Scheme (CLS) is a three-year programme to deliver local traffic improvement projects requested by residents, businesses, and councillors. £1.5 million has been allocated to the programme, which is funded by the Council’s General Fund Capital Programme.
Junction improvements – Saxon Avenue, Feltham
Local residents identified the roundabout on Saxon Avenue in Feltham as an area for improvement. The roundabout was causing congestion, parking issues, and safety concerns for pedestrians.
The project replaced the existing roundabout with a new ‘through about’ to allow vehicles travelling through to go ahead without any restrictions, and vehicles accessing properties to use the existing carriageway in a one-way direction to minimise any confusion.
The scheme, which was completed in October 2024, also addressed the safety concerns by extending the pedestrian footway, adding tactile paving at crossing points, and installing a speed table to reduce speeding.
Road safety scheme – Worton Estate, Isleworth
People living in the Worton Estate in Isleworth had expressed their road safety concerns over the existing junction, which had wide junction mouths and no tactile paving for crossing points. These concerns were heightened with local schools nearby.
The project introduced a new pram ramp and crossing to improve road safety and encourage vehicles to slow down, as well as tactile paving on each side of the road and the pedestrian island. The construction was completed in November 2024.
Cycle improvements – Southall Lane, Hounslow
Cyclists and pedestrians asked for improvements to the infrastructure on Southall Lane in Hounslow. The existing infrastructure did not allow them to manoeuvre safely, as it lacked adequate crossings, cycle and road signage, and speed reducing features.
Following this feedback, construction took place to widen the footways to ensure sufficient width for both cyclists and pedestrians, introduce new pedestrian and cycle crossing points, as well as upgrading the two existing zebra crossings. The works, which were completed earlier this month, also involved expanding the carriageway width at the roundabout for HGV's and buses, to enhance traffic flows in the area.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, lead member for Climate, Environment and Transport at Hounslow Council, said:
“We are committed to making it easier and safer for our residents to walk, cycle, and wheel in the borough. Residents played an important role in shaping these schemes and we want our local communities to help us identify schemes that will make our roads safer.
