2023’s Great British Spring Clean national event (17 March – 2 April) is organised by charity Keep Britain Tidy, and has recorded 400,000 bags of litter collected nationwide.

Hounslow Council is proud to support the green initiative each year, and helps residents keep active by providing equipment to anyone who wants to take part.

The dedication shown by Hounslow residents and its volunteers has been well worthwhile, with the 2023 clean-up resulting in over 1000 bags of collected litter, and more clean-up events hosted across the borough than in 2022.

Overall, 25 events (three more than last year) across parks, open spaces and carriageways were hosted within the borough, with over 220 volunteers taking part. Litters picks included group leaders from Environmental Champion volunteers, schools, parks, community groups, and Hounslow’s Countryside park team.

Hounslow’s Brentford-based Councillors rolled up their sleeves with the help of Brentford East and West community members to kick-off campaign support in March. Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Operational Services, Councillor Guy Lambert helped clean up some of Brentford’s housing estates and streets alongside Councillors Lara Parizotto, Rhys Williams, and Marina Sharma.

The Council’s staff members weren’t shy either when it came to cleaning up the borough. The Net Zero team took part in two clean-up events around Hounslow town centre, while the Council’s Environmental Ambassadors voluntary group for colleagues (pictured) were also out in force.

Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Operational Services, Councillor Guy Lambert, said: “The success of the Great British Spring Clean in Hounslow is a testament to the community spirit and civic pride that exist in our borough.

"We are grateful to residents, volunteers, Council colleagues and Councillors who participated in the event and made it such a success. Let's continue to work together to keep our communities clean and green all year around."

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of littering and promotes the importance of keeping communities clean.
