Hounslow Council has won the Best Social and Community Contribution Award at the 2026 Town and City Management Industry (TCMI) Awards, run by the Association of Town and City Management.
Announced on Wednesday 10 June 2026, the award recognises projects that make a real difference to local communities through partnership working and community involvement.
Hounslow’s winning entry highlighted a community-led regeneration programme in Feltham that has helped transform perceptions of the town by putting local people, culture and creativity at the heart of change.
Working closely with the Friends of Feltham Green and a range of local partners, the Council delivered improvements to Feltham Green, including the creation of the Feltham Eco Cabin and the Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden, alongside public art projects, community events and wider public realm enhancements.
The programme has turned an underused space into a safer, more welcoming and vibrant destination for residents and visitors. More than 1,500 people have taken part in workshops, events and community activities, helping to strengthen local pride and create a stronger sense of belonging.
The judges recognised the project as an outstanding example of how councils, residents, community groups, schools and businesses can work together to deliver lasting social benefits. Through a combination of design-led improvements, cultural storytelling and community participation, the programme has created a model for community-focused regeneration that can be replicated elsewhere.
The award-winning work forms part of the wider Future Feltham area programme, including a £475M regeneration at MoD Feltham that will help deliver more than 3,000 homes and 9,000 jobs and transform Feltham town centre over the coming years.
Councillor Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development at Hounslow Council, said: “We are delighted that this work has been recognised with a national award. The transformation of Feltham Green shows what can be achieved when local people, community groups and partners come together with a shared vision for their town.
“This success is an important part of our wider Future Feltham programme, which will deliver significant investment, new homes, jobs and opportunities for local people. While we’re planning for the future, we’re also delivering improvements that residents can see and benefit from today, creating a stronger, greener and more vibrant town centre for everyone.”
The TCMI Awards celebrate excellence in town and city management across the UK and Ireland, recognising organisations that are making a positive difference to the places they serve.
