Hounslow Council has appointed Councillor Ranjit Gill as Mayor of Hounslow for the civic year 2026–27.

Councillor Gill has been a dedicated member of the Hounslow community for decades, having lived in the borough for more than 40 years.

He was first elected as a councillor for Chiswick Gunnersbury ward in May 2018 and, following the May 2026 local elections, now represents Osterley and Spring Grove ward.

Over his time on the Council, Councillor Gill has contributed to a wide range of committees and panels, including Audit and Governance, Licensing, the Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel, and the Pension Board.

Outside of his council duties, he is an active volunteer, supporting homeless and vulnerable residents through Café Together and taking part in community clean-up initiatives.

Councillor Gill is passionate about protecting and enhancing the borough’s green spaces. Driven by a love of wildlife and nature, which he shared with his late partner, Peter, he champions environmental initiatives and community wellbeing.

The Mayor has chosen Age UK Hounslow’s Dementia Services as his charity for the duration of his mayoral year.

Age UK Hounslow provides Dementia Services to residents within the borough, including a free Dementia Station in Feltham. The Station hosts weekly gatherings designed for those living with dementia and memory challenges, their caregivers and loved ones. Offering dementia-friendly activities including singing, music, storytelling and art, the charity promotes mental and physical wellbeing for those affected by dementia.

Councillor Gill will be supported in this role by Councillor Sahibaa Hussain, who will serve as Deputy Mayor. Councillor Hussain represents Hounslow Heath ward.

Speaking on his appointment, Councillor Gill said:

“It is a great honour to serve as Mayor of Hounslow. This borough has been my home for over 40 years, and I am proud to represent and support our wonderful communities. I look forward to meeting residents, celebrating the incredible work taking place across Hounslow, and promoting causes that matter to our borough.”

Hounslow Council’s Leader, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, said:

“I am delighted to congratulate Councillor Ranjit Gill on his appointment as Mayor of Hounslow. He brings a wealth of experience, a strong commitment to public service, and a genuine passion for our communities and environment. I am confident he will be an excellent ambassador for the Borough over the coming year, and I look forward to working closely with him.”

The Mayor’s role is largely ceremonial and involves representing the Council at civic events, supporting community organisations, and acting as an ambassador for the borough.

Further details about the Mayor’s chosen charity and upcoming engagements will be announced in due course.
