Hounslow Council has taken the next step in delivering a new generation of affordable homes for residents.

Plans to deliver 182 new council homes at the Charlton House and Albany House estate in Brentford have been approved by the Cabinet.

The redevelopment will replace outdated housing with high quality, energy efficient homes for social rent, alongside new commercial space and improved green space for the local community.

The Council is currently completing the procurement of a main contractor, with construction expected to begin on site in September 2026.

This scheme forms part of Hounslow Council’s wider regeneration programme, one of the most ambitious growth and housing programmes in West London, delivering new homes, infrastructure and opportunities for residents.

The Charlton House and Albany House regeneration is part of the Council’s wider ambition to deliver 1,000 new council homes across the borough and tackle the growing demand for affordable housing.

The new development will provide 182 homes for council rent, with more than 30 per cent designed as larger family homes. The plans also include new ground floor commercial space and over 2,500 square metres of green space, helping to create a greener and more vibrant neighbourhood.

The regeneration follows strong resident support, with more than 87 per cent of residents who live on the estate voting in favour of the redevelopment in a ballot.

Councillor Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Assets, Regeneration and Development at Hounslow Council, said:

We are taking another important step in delivering the homes and neighbourhoods our borough needs. Charlton House and Albany House will become a new Brentford neighbourhood with modern homes, greener spaces and opportunities for local businesses. This is exactly the kind of regeneration we want to see in Hounslow. Supporting inclusive growth, improving neighbourhoods and making sure local people benefit from the investment happening across our borough.

Councillor Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Homelessness, said:

Providing high quality council housing for our residents is one of the most important things we do as a Council. Charlton House and Albany House will deliver modern, energy efficient homes for social rent, including much needed larger family homes. These homes will help more local families access secure, genuinely affordable housing in Brentford.

The redevelopment forms part of Hounslow Council’s wider housing and regeneration programme, which focuses on deliverable, place-based regeneration that links new homes directly to jobs, infrastructure and long-term growth.

At the same meeting, Cabinet also approved the next stage of regeneration of the Convent Way estate in Heston, which could deliver around 900 new homes over the lifetime of the project.
