Avenue Park in Cranford is set to benefit from a package of improvements as Hounslow Council begins the first phase of a wider programme, revitalising green spaces along the River Crane corridor.
This work promises to deliver meaningful and lasting improvements to biodiversity and community involvement, which will lay the foundations for long-term ecological resilience.
Hounslow Council’s Parks team will work in partnership with Let’s Go Outside and Learn (LGOAL). The project is funded with a £49,691.83 grant from the Crane Valley Partnership Fund.
Cllr Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces at Hounslow Council, said
“This investment marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Avenue Park. By improving habitats, visibility and access, and involving local people every step of the way, we are transforming the park into a safer, more welcoming space that supports biodiversity.
“This first phase of work marks the beginning of a long-term vision to restore Avenue Park and the wider River Crane corridor, opening up a thriving natural landscape where wildlife and communities can flourish.”
The work will run until December 2026, it includes
- baseline environmental surveys to help inform future strategic design and planning of the site
- improved biodiversity, including selective tree works
- better access and visibility, opening up views to the River Crane
- community involvement and citizen science, led by LGOAL, through their workshops and volunteering
Avenue Park’s position alongside Heathrow Airport and major transport routes has created longstanding challenges around air quality, noise and habitat fragmentation. This project will help to address these pressures through nature-based solutions that build climate resilience and strengthen the ecological corridor.
Local residents, schools, community organisations and volunteers, will play a key role in delivering and shaping activities. LGOAL will lead outreach with local families and young people.
Community groups including Cranford Action Group, Friends of Avenue Park and the Crane Valley Partnership, will participate through a steering group, supporting shared decision-making and ongoing stewardship.
