Hounslow Council sets its sights on the future with Vision 2050

Published: 28 November 2025

After engaging with over 2,000 people who live and work in the borough, Vision 2050 captures how people imagine Hounslow in the middle of century and how they want to live, work and grow.

Hounslow Council has welcomed work on ‘Vision 2050’, a bold, forward-looking vision that sets a long-term direction for the borough and its partners. The long-term strategy was ratified earlier in the week at Hounslow’s Borough Council meeting and outlines a new way of thinking about the future.

The vision is not structured around Council services but putting residents front and centre: considering an individual’s life course and the impact of forces of change over the next 25 years.

Unlike traditional strategies or statutory requirements, Vision 2050 is not a fixed document. The insights gathered during this extensive engagement process will be preserved in a digital archive, available to inform future planning and policymaking.

Speaking at Borough Council last night, the Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Tom Bruce said:

We live in a world shaped by short-term pressures – quarterly reports, inspection regimes, budget cycles, and political timelines. However, the most fundamental challenges we face – climate change, demographic shifts, inequality – cry out for long-term thinking.

Vision 2050 is our response. It’s a way to think about the future of Hounslow not in terms of services, but in terms of legacy, stewardship, and place leadership.

It’s about being good ancestors.

Vision 2050 complements the Council’s Local Plan, Future Feltham, and Great West Corridor projects, ensuring that long-term infrastructure planning is matched by a shared vision for how life in the borough will evolve.

The Vision also draws on detailed analysis of the social, economic, technological, environmental, and political forces shaping life in Hounslow. These include an ageing population, the impact of climate change and the evolution of work and digital technology.

While Borough Council ratified Vision 2050 last night, the work to reimagine the future continues with the Hounslow Collective Imagination Huddle. Supported, and funded, by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, this collaborative approach to public service brings together residents and local charities and council colleagues to together to explore themes related to care, ageing and life transitions - ensuring Hounslow is a fairer and more equal borough.

The official launch of Vision 2050 will take place on Monday 8 December, to book a space click here.
