Along with receiving vital advice, the event will celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities and outline how the Council is striving to make Hounslow a fairer, more equal borough.
Residents across Hounslow are encouraged to attend a free disability event that includes a wealth of support and advice for disabled residents in the borough. The event, held on Thursday 4 December at Holy Trinity Church on Hounslow High Street, will also include an exciting dramatic performance from leading disability charity Speak Out in Hounslow. Representatives from the charity will also be on hand to offer support to residents in the borough who have autism or learning disabilities.
The CEO of Speak Out in Hounslow, Sally Malit, said:
On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we are reminded that awareness is the first step towards acceptance, inclusion and understanding.
At Speak Out in Hounslow, we empower adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to speak up, be heard, and take pride in the strength of our community and the awareness we continue to build together.
Over the past two years, Hounslow Council has worked closely with the charity - providing more than £59,000 through the Council’s Thriving Communities Fund, which has supported its vital outreach projects in the borough.
Louise Murphy, who works for the Resolution Foundation, will also speak about the new benefit changes coming into effect and the potential impact on disabled residents who live in Hounslow.
Representatives from the Council will also give an in-depth briefing on the new integrated model of Adult Social Care, which will involve closer collaboration between the NHS and care services to support residents.
Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Cabinet Member for Communities, Residents Support and Equalities at Hounslow Council, said:
Two years ago, we launched a Fairer More Equal strategy that strives to deliver services that are tailored to the needs of the local community and that tackle systemic inequalities head on.
Events like these epitomise this ambition and highlight how we can, and will continue, to support disabled residents in Hounslow.
We continue to deliver for our residents by creating a fairer, healthier and more equal borough, where everyone has the chance to succeed.
