Hounslow Council has received its first assessment from the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) under the new national consumer standards framework.

The regulator’s report confirms the Council’s housing services meet the second highest consumer grade (C2), highlights several areas of good practice and recognises the Council’s clear commitment to resident safety, service quality and ongoing improvement.

While the report reflects the areas of improvement that we were already working on, it also acknowledges the Council’s proactive approach to making progress across the service and delivering better services for tenants across the borough.

Cllr Sue Sampson, Cabinet Member for Housing Management and Homelessness, said:

We welcome the outcome of our first inspection and the recognition of the good work already happening across our housing services. The report gives us a strong foundation to build on as we continue to make improvements for our residents.

We are already acting on the regulator’s recommendations to strengthen performance, continuing our commitment to enhance safety, and ensure every tenant in Hounslow has a safe, secure and high-quality home.

I want to thank our residents, council and housing staff, tenant representatives and partners whose dedication and hard work have helped us reach this point.

The Regulator of Social Housing commended the Council for providing an effective and timely repairs service, demonstrating a strong commitment to resident safety and compliance with key health and safety requirements, working proactively with partners to address anti-social behaviour and support safer communities, and taking a constructive approach to learning from complaints and driving service improvement.

The Council is already taking forward its improvement plan to address the areas identified for further work, including completing overdue safety remedial actions and strengthening how performance information is shared with tenants and councillors.

The Council manages around 13,500 homes across the borough and continues to prioritise investment, engagement and accountability to deliver the best possible housing service for its residents.

The inspection assessed the Council against the regulator’s four new consumer standards, introduced in April 2024, which focus on safety and quality, transparency and accountability, neighbourhood and community, and tenancy management.
