Hounslow Council has awarded a key contract to Pan European Charge Point operator Qwello to deliver a borough-wide network of fast electric charge points.
This is one part of the Council’s ambitious plan to install over 2,000 new charge points, with Qwello selected as one of the providers. The entire fast and rapid charge point rollout is fully funded by the charge point operators – delivering value for money for Hounslow residents.
The borough-wide programme will be rolled out in phases, with the first locations to be confirmed once site checks are completed.
Qwello’s innovative technology will provide electric vehicle users with a fast, convenient and accessible charging experience. Each alternating current (AC) units delivering up to 22 kW, enabling a typical full charge in three to five hours depending on the vehicle. Designed with the user needs in mind, every unit will feature contactless payment, reservable sessions through the Qwello app and 24/7 customer support.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, Hounslow Council Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, said:
This investment shows how attractive Hounslow is to private sector partners – and how committed we are to building a cleaner, greener borough that delivers for our residents.
New fast charge points will soon be installed across the borough, giving residents, businesses and visitors quick, convenient and affordable ways to power their vehicles.
Expanding access to sustainable transport is vital – not just for cutting emissions but for creating a forward-looking borough that works for everyone.
Martin Hale, Managing Director of Qwello UK, said:
We’re very proud to have been selected by Hounslow Council to support the growth of this driver-focused charging network. Our approach ensures high operational uptime, prevents nuisance parking, meets accessibility standards and delivers real social value to the local community.
To make charging even more accessible, the Council is also planning to install lamp column chargers on residential streets. A public consultation on the proposed lamp column charger locations will launch soon, giving residents the chance to have their say, help shape the network and make sure it meets local needs.
