Mohinder Dev - Shared Lives carer

Shared Lives offers an alternative to supported living or residential care and matches adults requiring support with approved paid carers in the family home in the borough.

The scheme provides for a range of needs, and offers support for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and age-related conditions.

Placements can be long or short term, day, or respite, providing a level of care that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional support services. Shared Lives is a caring, individualised approach that can build emotional wellbeing, and create a genuine sense of belonging within a family setting.

Care and support will vary depending on individual needs, and with your support they can lead fuller more independent lives.

Commenting on this exciting development, Hounslow Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Integration, Councillor Lily Bath, said: “Shared Lives can provide the kind of settled family environment that builds meaningful connections.  We’ve seen how successful it has been elsewhere in London and across the country and I look forward to our scheme building similar, long-lasting connections across Hounslow.”

Heston-based Mohinder Dev has been a Shared Lives carer for nearly 30 years, saying: “The experience has enriched my life, and I have some lovely memories, with hopefully many more to come.  When you look after people in this way, you regard them as your family.   I look at them as my own.”
