Councillors Code of Conduct and Allowances

Councillors allowances

The council pays allowances to its councillors to support their work as members of the local authority.

Each councillor receives a basic annual allowance and those with particular roles in the authority also receive special responsibility allowances.

Councillors can also claim certain expenses such as the costs of travelling to meetings on official council business.  Details of the current scheme and the payments made to individual councillors in the last financial year are available to download from this page, see below.

From 1 September 2009, the Executive agreed that the expenses claims for all councillors, as they are made, will be published on a quarterly basis on this page.

Our approach is based on openness and transparency, and we believe the public have the right to know the expenses members claim in order for them to carry out their democratic duties effectively.
