Public inquiry: Northumberland Estates

Background

A planning application was submitted on 8 December 2020 for the “erection of 80 residential dwellings, concierge building, car and cycle parking, landscaping and associated works; and infrastructure and other structures associated with allotment use”, which was refused by the Council on 22 October 2023 with one reason for refusal regarding the loss of Local Open Space.

The applicant from the Northumberland Estates has exercised the right to appeal against the refusal of planning permission by the council. 

The appeal process and feedback

The appeal will be in the form of a Public Inquiry. The Inquiry will be held as an in-person event at the below venue with the facility to view virtually via livestream: 6th Floor

The Inquiry will open at 10am on Tuesday 1 August and will run for four in-person days ending on Friday 4 August at 5pm.

Closing submissions will be held via an online conference on Microsoft Teams, which is likely to take place on Monday 11 September 2023. The Inspector has powers to determine the appeal and issue a final decision on the proposed development, and for this Appeal - the appointed Inspector is John Longmuir BA(Hons) DipUD MRTPI.
