National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP)

Calling all Hounslow graduates – we need you to help shape the future of public services!

Are you a graduate with a passion for making a positive contribution to your local community? Would you like to play a vital role in helping Hounslow to become an outstanding Council serving an outstanding borough? 

We’re inviting all Hounslow based graduates to join the National Graduate Development Programme (NGDP) at Hounslow Council. The programme is a two-year graduate management development programme, run by the Local Government Association (LGA). It provides a fantastic opportunity for recent graduates to fast-track their career in local government and learn more about the vital work of public servants. We have three places available for the Autumn 2024 intake.

You will be working in key strategic areas with senior managers, Directors and Councillors as a Management Trainee. We highly value the innovation and enthusiasm of our graduates and your contribution, energy and dedication will play a vital role in the delivery of our One Hounslow transformation programme. Your local knowledge will be instrumental in helping us deliver the best local services for Hounslow.

The programme

The NGDP runs for two years - during this time you will gain experience in a number of different areas across the Council. We aim to partner the interests of our graduates with the Council’s strategic needs to deliver the greatest value to the local community while enhancing your skills and management training. Placements are available across the entire Council, including areas such as Corporate services, Strategy and Policy, Children’s and Adult Services, Environmental Services and much more.

You will also gain a postgraduate-level qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This is a varied and prestigious programme which has a high record of success developing graduates into local government managers and leaders.

Graduates are employed on a 36-hour week, two year fixed-term contract, and complete four placements over the two years. The salary of each graduate starts at £31,440 increasing to £31,926 in the second year on the scheme.
