Working with young people

In this section you will find materials to support you when working with young people who are experiencing challenging circumstances or displaying risk-taking behaviour to put strategies in place to help keep them safe and support their families to provide a safe and loving environment for them.

As practitioners working with young people, you will be aware that presenting behaviours are often symptomatic of wider or deeper issues. It may be that circumstances which appeared initially to be appropriate for early help turn out to be more serious as your work unfolds. Likewise, young people’s behaviours may change unpredictably or suddenly become much more of a risk to their safety. Please do continually re-assess young people’s situations against the Hounslow Continuum of Need during your work, and consult with the Early Help Hub if you become worried that a more intensive response is required.  The resources here are not intended to replace a safeguarding response where a young person may be at risk of significant harm.
