Pay a fixed penalty notice

You can be issued a fixed penalty notice (FPN) for committing an environmental offence, for example:

  • littering or fly-tipping
  • not cleaning up after your dog
  • graffiti
  • putting up posters or handing out leaflets without permission
  • noise nuisance

If you’ve been issued a FPN, you must pay the fine within the time given to avoid prosecution in court.

There is a reduced fine if you pay within a shorter time period. This is detailed on your notice.

Make an appeal

There is no legal right to appeal a FPN and we do not offer an appeal process.

However, you can challenge a FPN through a magistrates' court. Your FPN notice includes information about making a challenge.
