Domestic services

1. Charging Policy

Pest Control Services are non-statutory and therefore do not have to be provided by local authorities. Hounslow Council continues to offer pest control services to residents on the condition that all costs are met from income. As a result there is no longer any reduction in costs for those on lower incomes or benefits.

2. VAT

All domestic service charges are shown inclusive of vat at the current rate.

3. Payments

Payment is required in full at time of booking for all fixed price pest control work.

4. Domestic or Commercial?

A domestic premises for the purposes of these charges is a single dwelling unit housing an individual, a couple, or a group of people living as a single family unit. Any other type of premises will be charged at the commercial rate including “houses in multiple occupation” (HMO). Landlords booking services for a rented property that fulfills the criteria for a domestic premises (as above) will qualify for the fixed domestic rate.

5. What is Included?

All fixed-price domestic work listed above is for “treatment only” but will include our recommendations for repairs, proofing, environmental improvements or other additional works that may improve the likelihood of success and/or minimise risks of re-infestation. The client remains responsible for implementing these recommendations. Proofing services may be available at additional cost and an estimate for this using the commercial rates shown can be provided. Any materials, equipment, baits or traps etc left on site as part of the treatment remain the property of London Borough of Hounslow and will be removed upon completion.

6. Treatment Duration, Access and Follow-up Visits

Most of the services listed are dependent upon the completion of works over a series of visits and these should be conducted within a certain overall timeframe. This is to ensure the best chances for a successful outcome and to meet statutory requirements. Clients must ensure that they are available for the follow-up work to be completed.

The treatment services listed below all involve multiple visits and we aim to complete the number of visits quoted within the timescales shown (starting from the date that treatment is started):

Pest Type Visits Time scale (days)
Rats and mice 3 35
Squirrels 4 35
Cockroaches 2 28
Bedbugs 2 28
Pharaoh ants 2 28

The number of visits may be reduced if it is clear that the infestation has resolved.

London Borough of Hounslow reserves the right to close cases where work has not been completed within a reasonable time. Clients will receive written advice where there is a risk of this. Once a case is closed due to being “timed-out” then clients wishing to recommence works will need to book a fresh series of treatment visits to commence from the start and this will be subject to a new charge. Please note that no refunds will be made where cases have been closed prior to completion due to being “timed-out” in this fashion.

7. Treatment by residents

We ask that residents that have booked services with us remove any treatment or trap that they might have placed themselves prior to our visit and refrain from using any such device or home treatment while the site is receiving professional attention from us. This will ensure that the products that we use are the focus of the remedial works and that there is no conflict between products.

Glue boards: We have noted that residents may also have glue boards (glue traps) in place when we arrive on site for the control of rodent species such as rats and mice. While these are legal for shops to sell and people to buy, they are now illegal for the general public to use and pest control professionals require a licence to use them and can only do so in a restricted number of circumstances – this does not include in the house. Our Pest Control Officers may also be committing an offence if they come across such traps during their work and fail to disable them. We therefore politely request that any such device is removed from the property before our arrival.

8. Cancellations

In order to keep service costs low we ask that clients give us 24 hours notice of any cancellation or requested change to a booked visit. However, clients are able to cancel services at any point prior to works being commenced and a full refund will be made in these circumstances.

Once treatment has commenced then no refunds will be payable. Where we have treatment materials on site, such as baits, traps or other devices or materials, then we will need to revisit you to collect them. If access is not provided for this then clients will be billed for the cost of replacement of the re-usable materials left on site plus an administration charge. Clients will then be responsible for their safe and legal disposal.

9. Guarantee

The Pest Control Team will make every effort to ensure that the treatment provided is suitable and sufficient to deal with the pest problem being addressed. However, we can make no guarantee that the premises will be completely free from pests once the fixed-price service has been completed and the additional charges shown will apply for any further works that might be required.

Clients are responsible for implementing any recommended works, such as repairs, proofing or environmental improvements at their premises (including liaison with their housing provider where necessary) to help to ensure that the treatment provided is as successful as possible and to minimise the risks of re-infestation once the works are complete.
