Make a subject access request (SAR)
To make a subject access request (SAR) you need to provide:
- your name
- your address
- a description of the information you want
- details of the service(s) you are receiving and any other information that could help us find your information
- a copy of either your driving licence or passport
- proof of your address on a copy of either a recent:
- utility bill (excluding mobile phone bill)
- bank statement
- Council Tax bill
Before you start
Check that you understand what a SAR is and that your request is clear and specific.
Or, make your request another way.
What happens next
We must respond as soon as possible and no later than one month. However, the response time starts from when we receive:
- a request that is clear and specific enough
- the appropriate identification to be sure that the request is from the data subject (whose information it is)
After this, we will send you an acknowledgement to say that the one month period has started.
The data protection team will then liaise with the appropriate department(s) that holds the information you have requested.
The information will be reviewed to establish what information you have the right to access under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We will remove or redact information, for example legal advice or information about other people, unless the third party has provided their permission to disclose the information.
Other ways to make a request
It's most efficient to make a request online. However, you can also either:
- email: dataprotection@hounslow.gov.uk
- write to us at the address below
- make a verbal request (please note we will need to ask security questions in order to confirm your identity or ask to see valid identification)
