An advocate is an independent person who can provide confidential help to children in care, leaving care or who have a social worker.
You might need the help of an advocate if you:
- feel you're not being listened to
- are unhappy about decisions being made about your life
- need information about your rights
- are unhappy about the way you are being treated by your soclai worker or social services
- need independent advice

Your right to be heard
Children and young people have a right to be involved in decisions about their lives and to have their views heard and taken seriously.
This is the law, as stated in the Children Act 1989 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
