You can request CCTV footage from us as:
- a member of the public
- an insurance company or solicitor acting on behalf of a member of the public
- a police officer
CCTV footage is held for 31 days, and then automatically deleted after this time.
The council must be satisfied that the request is legitimate and genuine before releasing any footage.
Request from a member of the public
This is treated as a subject access request and there is no fee.
Request from an insurance company or solicitor
You can request CCTV footage on behalf of a client involved in an incident.
We charge fees for this service.
Any footage we supply must only be used for the investigation, not for any other purpose.

Before you make a request
You should consider whether or not the incident:
- happened in the borough of Hounslow. You can check the location of the incident on GOV.UK.
- was likely to have been captured on CCTV. You may have observed a CCTV camera near the scene, but this does not necessaily mean the camera is managed by the council. You can view our CCTV camera locations on a map.
To use the map:
- Expand the 'Community' heading by selecting the plus symbol.
- Under the CCTV heading, tick the boxes for the types of CCTV cameras you're interested in. You should only request footage from CCTV cameras in the following categories:
- Community safety
- Housing
- Park
- Sheltered housing
What we'll need
When you make your request, we will ask you for:
- personal information such as name, address and email address
- as much detail as possible about the time and location of the incident
- the vehicle number plate or plates, if the incident involved a vehicle or vehicles
You will also be able to upload photographs to support your request if you wish.
You will also need to provide:
- proof of identification such as a driving licence or passport
- written authorisation for approval to act on the person's behalf, if you're an insurance company or solicitor
Fees
There are two types of fee when a fee is due:
- a search fee
- a footage release fee
Search fee
We will ask you to pay a search fee when you make your request for footage.
The search fee amount depends on how long the search is going to take. We base this on the information you provide in your request.
The fees are:
- search taking up to one hour - £440
- search taking one to six hours - £510
- search taking over six hours - £550
Release fee
Once we have identified the footage, we will request £210 to release it.
