What is a Business Improvement District (BID)?
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a defined area where businesses come together to invest in projects and services that benefit the local trading environment.
BIDs are funded through a small levy on business ratepayers in the area. The money collected is ring-fenced and spent only on projects and services in that BID area.
Typical BID activities may include:
- Extra cleaning and maintenance of streets and public spaces
- Safety and security measures, such as CCTV or patrols
- Marketing and events to attract visitors and customers
- Environmental improvements, such as lighting and planting
- Business support and promotion
BIDs run for a five-year term. To be set up, businesses in the area must vote in favour of the proposal through a formal ballot.
Proposed Hounslow Town Centre BID
A BID is currently being considered for Hounslow Town Centre.
Local businesses have been invited to take part in a ballot to decide whether the BID should be established. The ballot is being managed in line with national legislation.
Ballot outcome
The ballot will close at the end of October 2025.
We will publish the official outcome here once the ballot has been completed and verified.
