Air quality, pollution and aviation noise

Air quality and aviation noise

We are committed to improving the air quality in the borough.

We regularly review and monitor the quality of air in the borough because of its poor levels.

Factors that influence the quality of air:

  • Fossil fuels used by cars and lorries;
  • Aircraft fuel being close to an international airport;
  • Gases carried out by factory chimneys and power stations;
  • Gas and oil fired central heating boilers, and
  • Open fires and bonfires.

We recommend that everyone signs up to our free airTEXT service, which sends alerts via text message or email. It provides air quality, UV, pollen and temperature forecasts for the Borough, warns if high pollution is forecast, and provides health advice.
