Housing Benefit Disputes & Appeals and Council Tax Support Disputes Form

This form is to be used for Housing Benefit Appeals and/or Housing Benefit & Council Tax Support Disputes.

Housing Benefit

The Housing Benefit (Decisions and Appeals) Regulations 2001 state that any 'person affected' by a relevant decision can ask us to revise our decision. It also states that a person affected can appeal against our decision to an Independent Tribunal. 

Council Tax Support

The Hounslow Local Council Tax Support Scheme 2020 states that any person affected by a relevant decision can ask us to revise our decision. It also states that a person affected can appeal against our decision to an independent appeals tribunal.

Before you make an appeal, we will conduct an internal review of our Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support decision and notify you of the outcome. If you are not happy with the outcome of that review then you can make an appeal.

Appeals against Housing Benefit Decisions are made direct to Hounslow Council, using this form. The council will then review any decisions again before preparing a submission to the Tribunal Service. You will receive a copy of the submission and The Tribunal Service will contact you about a hearing.

Appeals against Council Tax Support Decisions should be made direct to the Valuation Tribunal.

Using this Form

You can only use this form for requesting a review of a Council Tax Support decision, also known as a dispute. It cannot be used to make an Council Tax Support appeal.

If you want to request a review of a Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support Decision, also known as a dispute, you must do this by completing this form within 1 month of the date you received your decision letter. If it takes longer to send your dispute then you must give us a reason for the delay, or your dispute may not be looked at.

Following our review of the decision we will notify you of the outcome. If you are still not happy, then for Housing Benefit Appeals you should use this form, and for Council Tax Support Appeals you should write to the Tribunal Service direct. You will need to do this within 1 month of receiving our letter telling you of the outcome of the review.
