Hounslow Council and its partners are hosting a free event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Bedfont Country Lakes.

Being held on Sunday 20 July between 12pm and 5pm, residents are encouraged to attend the anniversary event that will include face painting, music and fun for all the family. The event will also include a ‘birds of prey display ’ with the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of birds, as well as many other animal displays and opportunities to interact with them.
The event will take place in arenas and there is no need to book – residents can just turn up on the day.
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Parks, Leisure and Public Space at Hounslow Council, said:
Bedfont Country Lakes is an incredible park that has so much to offer for families, runners or dog walkers.
I know many families are feeling the pinch finding affordable options for their children during the summer holidays. Bedfont Lakes is the perfect place for children and young people to stay fit and have fun!
Historically, the area was known for its market gardens and orchards – including supplying apples and pears to Covent Garden Market in central London. From the 1950s, the site was repurposed as a landfill until 1973. By the late 1980s the site underwent a dramatic transformation to create a parkland of lakes, woodland and grassland. In 1995, the park formally opened to the public and was declared a nature conservation and a local wildlife site.
More recently, the playground recently underwent a 150k upgrade and the Council made improvements to the lakes, which included refurbishing the lake platform, signs and new trees.
Whether it is their countryside rangers or tree surgeons, the Council’s partners Lampton Greenspace are involved in the running and maintaining the park.

From planting trees and protecting wildlife, to keeping the park clean, safe and welcoming for everyone, it’s a true team effort. Bedfont Lakes is one of Hounslow’s most cherished green spaces and we’re delighted to be celebrating this special milestone with the community who make it so loved.”
