The Blue Badge scheme helps people with disabilities or mobility issues park closer to their destination, supporting greater independence and access to essential services. However, growing reports of misuse – including people using a badge that does not belong to them – have prompted a nationwide crackdown.

As part of the Action Day, NSL enforcement officers – who manage parking enforcement on behalf of the Council – have been patrolling streets and car parks across the borough, checking badges and speaking with drivers. In some cases, fraudulent use has resulted in badges being seized and penalty notices issued.

Councillor Shivraj Grewal, lead member for Infrastructure, Recycling and Transformation at Hounslow Council, said:

We are proud to support National Blue Badge Day of Action. The Blue Badge scheme exists to support residents who need it most. Misusing a badge is not only fraudulent – it directly impacts people with disabilities who rely on these spaces every day.

We want to send a clear message: misuse will not be tolerated, and we will continue enforcement every day, not just on Action Day.

Using someone else’s Blue Badge – even if it is a friend or relative – is a criminal offence. Offenders may face a fine, prosecution, and the badge being confiscated.

Hounslow Council urges residents to respect the purpose of the scheme and encourages the public to report suspected misuse.
