Last week, Transport and Parking staff, centre staff, and young people who use the facility came together to volunteer their time and help revamp the Hanworth Centre in Hanworth.

The Hanworth Centre is a youth and community centre that serves as a hub for the local community. Groups, including Rise and Thrive, Perfectly Imperfect and The Backstreet Dojo operate from the centre, providing services for young people, their families, and the community.
The purpose of the volunteering day was to make the space more inviting for the community, and a £1,000 grant from Hounslow Council's Thriving Communities Fund was able to make this happen.
The day began with the team painting the main hall, studio, and office area of the centre, followed by teaching young people who use the centre the basics of gardening and growing. Projects, such as this one, contribute to the Youth Skills and Education Guarantee (YSEG) – a partnership between the Council and partners that helps young people develop valuable life skills and practical experience.

Councillor Katherine Dunne, Hounslow Council Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, said: "Community centres are an important part of our communities. They are more than just a building, they are the heart of the community, providing a variety of services, support, and activities.
“After seeing that the Hanworth Centre needed some brightening up, our Transport and Parking teams wanted to help make this happen. This project is a great example of how we can give back to the community by volunteering just a few hours of our time.”
Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Hounslow Council Cabinet Member for Residents Support, Communities and Equalities, said: “It’s fantastic to see what can be achieved when local people, Council staff, and community partners come together. The makeover at the Hanworth Centre is a brilliant example of how the Thriving Communities Fund is supporting projects that make a real difference. By investing in our community spaces and empowering young people through hands-on experiences, we’re building stronger, more connected communities across Hounslow.”
The Thriving Communities Fund is one of the ways Hounslow Council supports local charities, voluntary groups, and places of worship to deliver projects that encourage social action and strengthen community life. Visit the council - communuty and living web pages to find out more and apply.
