Residents across Hounslow are urged to take part in a consultation on the Council’s Tax Support scheme. Hounslow Council is proposing a number of changes to the current scheme that supports residents on benefits or on low-incomes. The changes aim to make the scheme fairer and could result in some residents paying more council tax, and some paying less.

Residents can take part in the consultation online or ring 020 8583 4751 to get help on the consultation.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, the Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

“This is the last chance for residents – especially those getting this support now - to give their views on our proposed changes.

“We know many residents are still grappling with the effects of the cost-of-living crisis and the proposals include a dedicated Hardship Fund for any residents who may struggle with a potential increase in payments.”

The proposals focus on ensuring families and larger households receive the vital support they need. Pensioners will not be affected by the proposed changes.

Residents can use the Council’s online calculator to work out how much more or less they would potentially pay every month (using illustrative figures subject to approval in the formal budget setting process by both the council and the Greater London Assembly.)

The Council also has an EasyRead version of the proposed changes, click here to read.
