After nearly four decades of service, the Fountain Leisure Centre in Brentford is approaching the end of its useful life. Last night (14 October) Hounslow Council cabinet gave the green light for a community engagement and feasibility study to commence on provision of a new leisure centre to replace Fountain Leisure Centre.
This engagement exercise aligns with the Council’s corporate priorities to improve public health, increase physical activity levels, and provide spaces where residents can lead healthier, more active lifestyles.
A thorough review and feasibility study will be conducted to ensure that the new leisure facility is fit for purpose, financially viable, and delivers excellent value for money, while also enhancing the local environment. This project is part of a broader strategy to create sustainable, accessible amenities that support the regeneration and resilience of the Brentford community.
Cllr Salman Shaheen, Hounslow Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces, said:
“We are excited about the opportunity to deliver a new, modern leisure centre for Brentford that will meet the needs of our diverse community. As the Fountain Leisure Centre reaches the end of its life, we are committed to ensuring that the new facility will be of high quality and accessible to all.
“Any future decisions about the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre will be based on a thorough and transparent process, with a major emphasis on community engagement to shape the proposals.
“Before we take the next steps, we want to hear from the entire Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre community. Your input will be vital in designing a leisure centre that reflects the aspirations and needs of our residents. A survey will be launching in November, and we encourage all residents, visitors, local clubs, staff, and schools to get involved and help us create a thriving, inclusive space for everyone.”
The Council is encouraging everyone to keep an eye out for the survey, which will launch in November on the Let’s Talk Council platform, there will also be paper copies available.
